India to highlight defence policy at Asia Security Summit at Singapore

NEW DELHI, May 28 (KUNA) -- India will present its perspective on defence policy making in the midst of present geopolitical flux at the Asia Security Summit - The Shangri-La Dialogue - beginning May 30 in Singapore. "Indias Minister of State for Defence Dr M M Pallam Raju will represent the country at the Summit and is scheduled to address the Third Plenary Session titled Making Defence Policy in Uncertain Times at the summit on May 31. He is expected to provide an Indian perspective on defence policy making in the midst of geopolitical flux," an Indian Defence Ministry statement said here Wednesday. "The Shangri- La Dialogue is the only forum in the Asia-Pacific region for discussing defence and security issues," the Defence Ministry said. Dr Raju will also hold bilateral meetings with the Defence Ministers, Heads of Delegations and Chiefs of Defence Forces of UK, France, Mongolia, Sri Lanka among other countries on the sidelines of the Summit. Since its inaugural meeting in 2002, the The Shangri- La Dialogue has become a recognised part of the architecture of Asian defence diplomacy and is seen as the Asia-Pacific region's premier and most inclusive security institution.
