35 LTTE rebels, three gov''t soldiers killed in N. Sri Lanka clashes

NEW DELHI, May 22 (KUNA) -- At least 35 rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and three soldiers have been killed in clashes in Northern Sri Lanka. As many as seven LTTE rebels were killed in Mulaithivu jungles yesterday, Sri Lanka's Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said Thursday. At least three LTTE cadres and an army soldier were killed in Palampiddi, Mundimurippu and Palamodai in Vavuniya yesterday, Sri Lankan Defence Ministry said today in a statement. On the Mannar front in the Nadunkandal area, one Army personnel was killed, the Ministry said. Five rebels were killed at Parappakandal in Vavuniya yesterday. Four more Tamil rebels were killed at Kiribbanwewa in north-east Welioya yesterday. Four rebels were gunned down in north Janakapura in Welioya yesterday. In another incident also at Janakapura, seven LTTE rebels were killed yesterday, the MCNS said. As many as two rebels were killed in Mundimurrippu in Vavuniya yesterday, the Defence Ministry said, adding one more LTTE rebel was killed in Palampidi in the region.
