BASRA, May 18 (KUNA) -- Basra police command announced on Sunday that Iraqi
police forces have stormed various areas in Basra where they confiscated large
quantities of heavy and contraband weapons and arrested a number of elements
wanted for criminal and terrorist charges.
Spokesman of the Basra Police Command told reporters that the INterior
Ministry troops yesterday raided and searched sporadic parts of Basra
Governorate, leading to the arrest of 38 elements wanted by the law for
criminal and terrorist charges, in addition to the confiscation of 88 120-mm
mortars and 150 explosive detonator, in addition to 40 automatic rifles,
ammunition and different types of weapons.
He added that Iraqi army troops carried out raids and searches yesterday in
the city of Qurnah and Qasbat in northern Basra that resulted in the discovery
of a plant for the manufacture of explosive devices. (end)
