NEW DELHI, May 15 (KUNA) -- At least 28 rebels of the Liberation Tigers of
Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and five government soldiers have been killed in fresh
clashes in Northern Sri Lanka.
As many as five female LTTE cadres and one trooper were killed at
Periyamadhu area in Vavuniya yesterday, Sri Lankan Defence Ministry said in a
statement at Colombo Thursday.
In another incident, four LTTE rebels and one soldier were killed in
Periyamadhu area, Sri Lanka's Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said
today.
Six LTTE cadres were killed at Palamodai in Vavuniya-Mannar border last
evening, the Defence Ministry said.
One LTTE rebel was gunned down in the Palampiddi area in Mannar this
morning.
One soldier was killed in Muhamalai in Jaffna peninsula yesterday, the MCNS
said.
Another soldier lost was gunned down at Kilaly in Jaffna yesterday, the
Defence Ministry said.
Three rebels were killed in the Vavuniya front in Wanni yesterday. In
Mannar, a LTTE rebel was gunned down.
Four rebels and one soldier were killed in Janakapura in North-east Welioya
yesterday, the MCNS said.
Four LTTE rebels were killed in two separate incidents at Alankulam in
Mannar, MCNS said. (end)
