26 LTTE rebels, one soldier killed in Sri Lanka clashes

NEW DELHI, May 8 (KUNA) -- At least 26 rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and one government soldier have been killed in fresh clashes in battle-fatigued Northern Sri Lanka.
At least ten LTTE cadres and one soldier were killed in Adampan in Mannar yesterday. Three LTTE cadres were killed in Kanthakulam North in Mannar yesterday, MCNS said.
Five rebels were killed in North-western Mannar yesterday, the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry said today in a statement at Colombo. One LTTE rebel was gunned down in Vediyamurippu in Mannar yesterday. While one rebel was killed in Kurukandal area in Mannar, as many as three LTTE cadres were killed in Palampidi in Vavuniya yesterday, the Ministry said.
At least two LTTE rebels were gunned down in Navathkulam in Vavuniya yesterday, the Ministry statement said. (end) dr.ajs KUNA 082346 May 08NNNN
