RAMALLAH, April 26 (KUNA) -- Israel informed the Palestinian Authority that
it will remove a military barrier near Nablus city, security sources in the
city said Saturday.
The barrier, known as "Barrier 17," will be removed on Monday and that the
procedures will be taken to make the ease the lives of the Palestinians, the
sources added.
They pointed out that an Israeli-Palestinian meeting was held on Friday and
that the Palestinian side demanded removing the barriers of Howara and Beit
Iba, south and east of Nablus.
Israel said that it will allow the Palestinian authority to reopen a police
station "Region B" east of the city.
Nablus has been under a tight siege for eight years and is surrounded by
Israeli barriers.
Israeli forces penetrate the city almost every day, claiming that
Palestinian resistance activists hide in Balata camp and the city's old town.
Israel had promised, about a month ago to remove 50 barriers, but only one
that divided Jericho and Ramallah was in fact removed. (end)
