Seven US soldiers killed, as unrest persists throughout Iraq

BAGHDAD, March 28 (KUNA) -- Seven US soldiers were injured in two separate attacks by al-Mahdi Army militia men in the capital, Baghdad, on Thursday, the US Army said in statement on Friday.
The militia mounted 11 mortar shell attacks yesterday, the statement noted.
Three attacks had targeted two US Army headquarters and a joint security center in the eastern part of the Tigris River, which resulted in injuring four soldiers, the statement said.
A US Army patrol was also targeted with an improvised explosive devise in the New Baghdad area, in which three more soldiers were injured, it added.
The rest of the attacks took place outside the Green Zone area, resulting in the killing of an Iraqi civilian and injuring 14 more. Another attack targeted two joint security centers and a checkpoint run by al-Sahwa group in western al-Rashid area, resulting in the injury of three al-Sahwa elements, the statement concluded.
To that, a security source told KUNA today that unknown gunmen assassinated the Administrative Manager of Naheyat Ghmas southern Iraq, Saad Al-Shibli.
Furthermore, and according to eyewitnesses, US war planes had raided groups of armed men in al-Kadhimia neighborhood today and yesterday, killing 13 of them, a statement that the US forces had acknowledged.
According to an Iraqi medical source, the toll of casualties of the clashes that have been going at al-Sadr City since last Tuesday reached 39 killed and 389 injured, including women and children.
