BAGHDAD, March 23 (KUNA) -- Six Iraqi civilians were killed on Sunday when unknown militants opened fire on them in southern Baghdad.
A police source told reporters that the militants were in three cars and opened fire randomly at pedestrians in Zafaraniya district, southern Baghdad, and then escaped the scene of the crime.
The source said six people were killed and 17 others were wounded, including women and children.
Meanwhile in the eastern district of the capital, police said a mortar shell fell over Kamaliya district, killing five Iraqis and wounding eight others.
Earlier today, Baghdad's Green Zone had come under mortar shell attack, with sources saying that up to 15 shells fell over the fortified area and columns of smoke were seen rising from more than one location.
One shell missed its target and fell over Batawin district, across the Tigris River, killing two civilians and wounding six others. (end) ahh.ema KUNA 231515 Mar 08NNNN
