30 LTTE rebels killed in Sri Lanka clashes, LTTE artillery command destroyed

NEW DELHI, Feb 28 (KUNA) -- At least 30 rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have been killed in separate clashes in Sri Lanka's embattled Northern region.
Sri Lankan Air Force fighter jets Thursday bombed the LTTE artillery command centre and an underground bunker located in Palai area of Jaffna, the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said in a statement in Colombo.
The LTTE centre was destroyed in the attack, the MCNS claimed.
At least 14 LTTE rebels were killed at Perankaman, Parappakandal, Karukkakulam and Adampan areas of Mannar yesterday, Sri Lankan Defence Ministry said in a statement at Colombo today.
As many as three rebels were killed in Koilmadu area of Vavuniya yesterday, the MCNS said.
Six more LTTE cadres were killed last night at Thiruketheeswaranan in Mannar, the Defence Ministry said.
A senior LTTE leader identified as Pandiyan Annayan was also killed in a clash in Karampaikulam area of Mannar yesterday, the Ministry said.
Four LTTE rebels were killed at Karampaikulam yesterday, the MCNS said, adding a woman LTTE cadre was killed at Koilamoddai area in Mannar.
Another LTTE rebel was killed in Vellaweli in Batticaloa yesterday, the Defence Ministry said. (end) dr.bs KUNA 282244 Feb 08NNNN
