Palestinian ambassador: Israel has deflated optimism of Annapolis
Military and Security    12/12/2007 7:37:00 PM

GENEVA, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- Palestinian Ambassador to the UN Observer Mission in Geneva Dr. Mohammad Abu-Koash told the Human Rights Council Wednesday that next week the Palestinians would be celeberating Adha Eid and Christmas within the upcoming days, urging Israel to halt military operations "Spare a minute in your prayers for occupied Jerusalem, sad Bethlehem, besieged Gaza, and Palestinian children traumatized by tyrants," he said Dr. Mohammad Abu-Koash, addressing the Israeli Ambassador as the "jail man", and said that Israeli activities constitute a flagrant violation of international law. He added that Israel has deflated the optimism of Annapolis by expanding the settlements in Abu Ghoneim mount and launched an attack against occupied Gaza.
Head of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) in Geneva Pakistani Ambassador Masood Khan thanked Director of the International Institution for Human Rights Martin Scheinin for his valuable report and noted that OIC supports the call of the Special Rapporteur regarding the withdrawal of Israeli settlements and that the separation wall under construction must respect the Green Line of the 1967 borders. In this report, Scheinen recommended that the Government of Israel make an immediate decision to withdraw all Israeli settlements from the Occupied Palestinian Territory. He added that there was a need to replace the unfinished barrier, which extends deep into Palestinian territory, with a security infrastructure that would be accepted by the Palestinians.
While that decision was being implemented, the Special Rapporteur recommended that urgent action be taken to ensure that the permits regime, the administration of checkpoints and all other associated measures in the Occupied Palestinian Territory do not have a disproportionate impact on the enjoyment of human rights, including economic, social, and cultural rights.
