BAGHDAD, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- Leader of the majority in the Iraqi National
Assembly (Parliament), Abdul-Aziz Al-Hakim on Tuesday left for Washington on
an official visit upon invitation by the US Administration.. Al-Hakim is leading a delegation from the United Iraqi Alliance leaders and
Shiite MPs on the visit, director of relations, culture and media in the
Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) Sheikh Hamid Rashid Mala said. According to Mala, the leader of the Iraqi Alliance will discuss with the
US officials a host of issues relevant to the Iraqi scene and the political
and security developments in the country. The Alliance had demanded dragging Iraq from under the Seventh Article of
the UN Charter as well as concluding an agreement to put and end to the
existence of foreign troops in the country. It also stressed the dire need for enforcing the provinces law, speeding up
steps for the oil and gas bill and respecting the independence of the
judiciary as well as implementing the verdicts against those condemned in the
Anfal Campaign. In addition, the Supreme Council noted that foreign troops were
"temporarily" in Iraq and that the international community had to help the
country to rebuild its troops and security bodies to be able to assume full
responsibility.(end)
