IRBIL, Oct 11 (KUNA) -- Eight Iraqis were killed while 52 others were
injured when a booby-trapped car exploded in Kirkuk city northern Iraq on
Thursday, a security source said.
Kirkuk police's brigadier Sardah Qadir told KUNA a booby-trapped vehicle
was parked near a gas station on Shorja area in Kirkuk, with the obvious
target being a high ranked Iraqi police official.
The initial casualty report pointed that 60 people were killed and injured,
revealed Qadir, adding that properties nearby were affect by the incident.
With the fasting month of Ramadan drawing to a close, Iraqi authorities
began to plan imposing tight security precautions to protect citizens from
terrorist attacks.
Iraqi authorities in Baghdad adopted strict measures to avoid booby-trapped
cars attacks during the three-day of Eid Al-Fitr (Lesser Bairam). (end)
