BAGHDAD, Oct 10 (KUNA) -- Iraqi authorities in Baghdad adopted strict
measures to avoid booby-trapped cars attacks during the three-day of Eid
Al-Fitr (Lesser Bairam).
In a press release, Operation Law and Order Command said these measures
were aimed at ensuring security during Eid festivities.
The measures included banning parking all cars in public roads, main
streets and intersections.
It noted that all violators will be handled in accordance with the
anti-terrorism law and all parked cars will be considered dangerous.
On Tuesday, Baghdad and adjacent cities witnessed a series of bobby-trapped
cars blats that killed and injured scores of people.
During Ramadan, Iraqi authorities were successful at lowering the number of
terrorist attacks despite Al-Qaeda's promise to escalate matter during this
holy month.
This year's Ramadan witnessed a 37 decrease in terrorist operations in
comparison to the same period last year.
Throughout Ramadan, the command had decreased the curfew against
pedestrians to only two hours in the evening while the day curfew was fully
canceled.(end)
