ALGIERS, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- Algeria has recorded a trade surplus of USD 19.
56 billion in the first eight months of 2007, the Ministry of Commerce said in
a statement Friday.
The ministry said this number was USD 4.16 billion less than that recorded
during the same period last year. It attributed the drop to a decrease in
imports and exports, as well as the influence of the strong euro during this
period.
Moreover, it said that up to the end of August 2007, sales of hydrocarbons
-- Algeria's main export products -- fell USD 1.48 billion, thus adding to the
great drop in the country's surplus.
It said, however, that the state treasury was unaffected in light of global
oil prices remained at around USD 80. (end)
