NEW DELHI, Aug 15 (KUNA) -- There were four explosions in the India's
Northeastern state of Assam on the country's Independence Day Wednesday.
However, there were no casualties reported so far in the blasts, Indo Asian
News Service reported.
There were two blasts each at Gauripur and Bongaigaon in western Assam this
morning, the news agency said.
There has been a series of terror attacks in Assam since August 5 in the
run-up to Indian Independence Day in which 36 people were killed.
Assam police blamed Wednesday's serial blasts on the outlawed United
Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), an insurgent group waging rebellion since
1979 to create a "sovereign Assam" carved out of India.
ULFA have been boycotting India's Independence Day and Republic Day
celebrations for years now. They have been carrying out terror attacks on and
around August 15 every year to make their presence felt.
The top ULFA leadership is reportedly based in neighbouring Bangladesh. New
Delhi has accused the ULFA leadership of maintaining close links with
Pakistan's ISI to create disturbance in the country's Northeast. (end)
