Riots in Mosul prison lead to three casualties

IRBIL, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- Clashes between inmates of Badoush detention camp, east of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, and the Multi-National Force (MNF) left a detainee killed and two others injured Friday.
The riots erupted in the heavy punishment cell when wardens and an MNF unit got into there to take some detainees to the gallows, an Iraqi police source told KUNA.
The inmates resisted the orders of the wardens and set fire to some furniture, prompting the MNF troops to use tear gas, live ammunition and rubber bullets to put down the riots.
The clashes killed one detainee and killed two others, according to the source.
Badoush detention camp was the site of several riots and detainee escape.
Ayman Sabaawi, nephew of late Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein, managed to escape from the jail late 2006.
Unknown gunmen broke into the jail and freed 69 detainees including some Arab nationals. (end) sbr.gb KUNA 032031 Aug 07NNNN
