NEW DELHI, July 21 (KUNA) -- At least two civilians were injured when
Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) guerrillas fired mortars in northern
Sri Lanka, news agency Indo-Asian News Service reported Saturday.
Both injured in the mortar attack, late on Friday, in the northern Vavuniya
district, were women aged 58 and 28, it added.
Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said it
would no longer accept slain bodies of the LTTE from the Sri Lankan Army to be
handed over to the rebel group in the eastern Batticaloa district.
Davide Vignati, the ICRC spokesman, told reporters today at Colombo: "ICRC
could no longer find direct LTTE interlocutors in Batticaloa. As a result, we
refused to accept three LTTE bodies from the Army yesterday."
"We will continue to assist both parties on request in the districts of
Vauniya and Mannar." (end)
