ROME, July 10 (KUNA) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has accused the
Islamic movement Hamas of facilitating "infiltration" of Al-Qaeda activists
into Gaza Strip.
Abbas, in an interview with the Italian "Rai" television network, broadcast
early on Tuesday, said, "Al-Qaeda is currently entering Gaza under Hamas'
camouflage .. Hamas is protecting Al-Qaeda in Gaza."
Hamas gunmen have become almost as bloody as the armed followers of
Al-Qaeda, he said, expressing deep concern at the infiltration of the hardline
militants into the strip.
The bitter power struggle between the mainstream Fatah organization, with
which Abbas is affiliated, and Hamas has recently dramatically escalated when
the Islamic group took over the strip after bloody fighting with Fatah.
The Palestinian National Authority will re-united Gaza Strip and the West
Bank, said Abbas, whose headquarters is based in the bank's town of Ramallah,
branding Hamas' takover of the strip as a crime against the whole Palestinian
people.
Fatah will never hold dialogue with Hamas, the president said, emphatically
dismissing any prediction in this regard. (end)
