MOSCOW, July 10 (KUNA) -- Three Russian soldiers serving in the Chechen
republic have been killed in a bomb blast, Russian Television reported on
Tuesday.
The television quoted military sources as saying that unknown gunmen set
off a roadside bomb near the village of Dyshne-Vedeno, located in a
mountainuous region, hitting a Russian military patrol.
The explosion knocked out an armored military vehicle, killed three
servicemen and seriously wounded five others.
Russian troops arrested three persons after the attack that occurred near
the republic's capital, Grozny.
The Russia, military forces had been engaged in two major wars against
separatist local gunmen since 1994.
In the second war, Moscow launched an all-out battle on Grozny, devastating
much of the city, where the Chechen gunmen were entrenched, and forcing those
who survived to retreat to mountainuous regions. (end)
