BEIRUT, June 28 (KUNA) -- Lebanese Army troops, engaged in ongoing armed
confrontations with armed militants in northern Lebanon, carried out a suprise
attack on gunmen holed up in a cave and killed six on Thursday, a military
source said.
The source told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the regulars attacked and
killed six members of Fatah Al-Islam faction who were hiding in a cave,
located in rocky terrain close to the town of Al-Qalamoun, south of Tripoli,
Lebanon's second largest city.
The slain gunmen, of various Arab nationalities, were suspected to have
taken part in a suprise attack on army troops on May 20, he said.
Bomb disposal experts were dismantling booby traps planted by the gunmen in
the cave, he said, adding that several troops were wounded in the operation.
