BAGHDAD, June 28 (KUNA) -- Up to 134 members of Al-Qaeda have been killed
and detained to date in Operation Arrowhead Ripper, entering its tenth day on
Thursday in Diyala Province, northeastern Baghdad.
A US Army statement said that in nine days, 60 Al-Qaeda operatives were
killed and another 74 were arrested, adding that 31 weapons caches were
uncovered during this period.
Joint US-Iraqi forces successfully defused 81 explosive devices and
dismantled 18 booby-trapped buildings in different areas, according to the
statement.
The troops also distributed 265,000 tons of rice and flour to some 10,000
people, as well as fresh drinking water.
US and Iraqi forces launched Operation Arrowhead Ripper ten days ago to
root-out Al-Qaeda operatives in Diyala, one of their strongholds. (end)
