ABU DHABI, June 12 (KUNA) -- Participants in an economic cooperation
meeting between Algeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday
discussed ways of cooperating at investment.
The discussion items included trade, media, tourism, higher education,
scientific research, vocational training, environment, labor, youth,
transport, public sector reform, customs, water resources and restructuring
water and electricity networks.
The fifth meeting of the joint Algerian-UAE Committee had kicked off
Tuesday in Abu Dhabi under the chairmanship of UAE Minister of Economy Sheikha
Lubna Al-Qassimi and Algerian Finance Minister Karim Joudi with
representatives of the private and public sectors from both countries present.
"There will be closer cooperation in the next few years," the UAE minister
said. She added that the two sides were working on laying down the framework
for a larger cooperation and possibly, in future, "an economic partnership and
expanding bilateral trade."
The UAE minister lauded the steps taken by Algeria in the past few years in
developing its economy and its five-year plan, ending in 2009 and worth USD 90
billion.
The Algerian minister expressed hope that the meeting would pave the way
for a positive outcome reflecting the wishes of the two states. (end)
