KABUL, June 12 (KUNA) -- A roadside bomb explosion in southern Afghanistan
killed a NATO soldier and wounded two others, the NATO-led International
Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said.
A statement released by the ISAF headquarters in Kabul said the incident
happened in southern Afghanistan, the region comprising Kandahar, Helmand,
Zabul and Uruzgan provinces.
However, the brief statement did not give the name of the exact area where
the explosion took place.
Roadside bombings are rampant in the districts of Kandahar and Helmand
provinces where mostly Canadian and British troops are operating as part of
the NATO's counter insurgency mission in Afghanistan.
Expressing grief over the demise of the soldier and injuries to the two
others, ISAF spokesperson Lt. Col. Maria Carl said: "We are saddened but not
deterred."
The brief statement also did not release the name and nationalities of the
victims, saying NATO policy does not allow release of identities of the
casualties before the relevant country does so. (end)
