ISTANBUL, May 24 (KUNA) -- Turkish police arrested seven members of the
Kurdistan Workers Party (PPK), believed to have planned terrorist operations
in Istanbul, a police statement said Thursday.
The arrested were trained abroad before entering the country, and were
planning to conduct the operations in the commercial capital and other Turkish
cities, the statement added.
To that, Turkish police yesterday detained a suspected female suicide
bomber in possession of 11.3 kilograms of A-4 plastic explosives in the
southern city of Adana, the local governor said.
The governor of Adana, Ilhan Atis, told reporters that police also found
two grenades and twelve detonators in the woman's possession.
The PKK has been fighting for self-rule in the mainly Kurdish southeast of
Turkey since 1978, in a conflict that killed more than 37,000 people.(end)
