BAGHDAD, May 18 (KUNA) -- Six terrorists were detained during raids in
eastern Baghdad, said the Multi-National Force (MNF) in a statement on Friday.
The MNF said the terrorists were suspected of being members of a secret
cell accused of smuggling weapons and explosively formed penetraters, or EFPs,
from Iran to Iraq, as well as facilitating the entrance of militants from Iraq
to Iran for terrorist training.
The statement did not reveal exactly where the terrorists were detained but
indicated that the troops confiscated several weapons and explosive material
during the operations.
One of the six terrorists were accused, according to intelligence reports,
of planning and coordinating numerous murders, kidnappings, assassinations,
and attacks on Iraqi civilians and coalition forces.
The other suspect is an explosives expert and weapons dealer.
"Coalition forces are targeting the terrorists, searching them out in the
places they hide," said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson.
"This morning's operation is one more step in removing the terrorist
networks from Iraq," stated the spokesperson. (end)
