Police foils attack on Kashmir minister

Police foils attack on Kashmir minister NEW DELHI, April 13 (KUNA) -- Police in the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir have foiled a plan to assassinate state's Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad with the arrest three people.
Police said that two suicide bombers were trying to infiltrate a public rally addressed by Azad in Jammu and Kahsmir, Thursday, to target him and others, news agency Indo-Asian News Service reported Friday.
The duo, who were working as guides for the terrorists, were arrested Thursday. Their arrest led to the arrest of a guerrilla, police said.
Police are conducting searches for another guerrilla who was also part of the foiled attack, the news agency said.
The chief minister's function went on smoothly and the programme was held peacefully. He has been on the hit list of guerrillas for tough stance against Pakistan-based groups and his opposition to demilitarisation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
The guerrillas had earlier attacked a political rally last May attended by Azad. Nine people were killed and 50 injured in the attack. But a delay of 15 minutes by Azad had saved his life on that day, the news agency said. (end) dr.ema KUNA 131247 Apr 07NNNN
