Chief tribesman killed, 179 arrested, 8 killed in Iraq
IRBIL, April 6 (KUNA) -- A chief tribesman was killed by unknown militants
in Mosul, north or Iraq, on Friday, an Iraqi security source was quoted as
saying.
Unknown gunmen in a car shot dead Ghazi al-Hanash Hamoud, chief of Taai
Tribe, while he was leaving Abdul-Razek Mosque in Wehda district, southeast
Mosul, following the weekly routine Friday prayers, the Iraqi police source
told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Meanwhile, some 179 insurgents were arrested and eight others were killed
in a security operation that has begun in Mosul this week in order to impose
law and order in the country, Multi-National Forces in south Iraq said.
Light firearms, ammunitions and materials used in making explosive bombs
were also seized in the Operation Imposing Law, the Multi-National Forces said
in a release on Friday.
US-led alliances forces provided logistic and air support and vehicles to
the security forces during the two-day operation in Mosul, they said. (end)
