Arab summiteers say keen to boost joint economic, political action RIYADH, March 29 (KUNA) -- Arab Leaders have Thursday adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations aimed at further bolstering inter-Arab economic and political action.
The leaders rejected a US law to impose unilateral penalties against Syria and said it was against international law. They expressed full solidarity with Syria against these measures.
They asked the US to reconsider this law in order to prevent further deterioration of conditions in the region including the Middle East peace process.
The Arab leaders, meanwhile, said it was important to continue efforts to remove all hurdles against Arab-Afro cooperation.
They called in a resolution on the Arab league secretary general to continue contacts with the presidency of the European Union (EU) and the European Commission (EC) to develop Arab-Euro relations within the Arab-Euro dialogue.
They have also underlined importance of dialogue between civilizations in a drive to build more balanced international relations.
They supported a proposal by the UN secretary general that the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to hold a meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss relations between cultures and their impacts on international peace and security.
The Arab leaders, meanwhile, approved the executive program of the Arab custom union and assigned the Economic and Social council to place necessary mechanisms to implement a program to launch the union.
On the free trade zone, the leaders urged Arab countries which did not complete membership measures to do so as soon as possible.
The Economic and Social Council was assigned to remove all hurdles blocking the way for exemption of tariffs of Arab goods.
Meanwhile, the Arab leaders condemned all forms of terrorism and called for international coordination to hold a conference on terrorism that would set a specific definition of terrorism.
On education, the Arab summiteers assigned the Arab League educational, scientific and cultural organizations to coordinate with the League's secretariat to develop education in the Arab world. (end) kt.bz.
