Algeria ponders trading in electric power -- official
(with photos)
ROME, March 29 (KUNA) -- Algeria is considering trade in electric power in
the European and Mediterranean markets, visiting Algerian Minister of Energy
Chekib Khalil said on Thursday.
The Algerian official, speaking to journalists, said that Algeria would use
its gas resources to build and operate power stations.
He denied western press reports that Algiers planned to establish a cartel
for gas producers, identical to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting
Countries (OPEC), indicating that supplies on the market were insufficient to
set up such an organization.
Chekib also indicated that his country would be able to sell four billion
cubic feet of gas to Italy by 2011. (end)
