KUWAIT, June 23 (KUNA) -- 1972 -- The Kuwaiti dinar is pegged to the US dollar's exchange rate.
1987 -- A decree by law is issued regulating the aviation transport market in the state of Kuwait.
1990 -- Aerated Concrete Industries Company (ACICO) is established.
1995 -- A decree by law is issued on combating smoking. The law banned the planting or importing of tobacco, except for scientific purposes. It also prohibited smoking in public places and selling of tobacco to people less than 21 years of age.
1997 -- The late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah endorses the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. Kuwait became the 93rd signatory state.
1998 -- Minister of Health Dr. Adel Al-Subeeh issues regulatory resolutions giving health departments greater authorities.
2000 -- The US congress endorsed a resolution calling for the release of more than 600 Kuwaiti and third country nationals, detained in Iraq since the Iraqi aggression of 1990.
2008 -- The Cabinet approves a KD 50 pay raise for state employees, retirees, and those receiving social and disability financial support. The increase got the approval of parliament in a session the following day.
2008 -- Athletes Jassem Al-Mas and Abdulaziz Al-Mandil nab gold medals at the 13th Arab Track and Field games in Tunisia in the 400 meter hurdles and the 110 meter hurdles category.
