1938 -- The first legislative elections, during era of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, were held, at Al-Sagr diwan. Fourteen members were elected and Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah was chosen to head the legislative council.
1960 -- The State of Kuwait joined the World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
1961 -- Iraqi naval forces opened fire at Kuwaiti ships carrying commodities to Kuwait through Shatt Al-Arab waterway in the northern Gulf.
1975 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued Decree 24/1975, approving Kuwait's joining the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
1981 -- Mohammed Yousef Al-Nesef, the first post-independence Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, died at the age of 70. He had held several public offices before and after Kuwait's independence.
1986 -- The Kuwait-headquartered International Islamic Charitable Foundation was launched.
1998 -- The US Federal Aviation Administration rated the Kuwaiti Civil Aviation Administration as an (A) category in terms of navigation safety supervision and control.
1998 -- National Ranges Company was founded as a public shareholding enterprise with a capital of two million Kuwaiti Dinars.
2005 -- Player Khalid Saud Al-Zaid snatched a gold medal in an international Taekwondo competition at 11 years of age, scoring an exceptional 86.5 points.
2006 -- Voters headed to the polling stations to name their MPs for the 11th legislative term. Kuwaiti women took part in the elections for the first time as 27 female candidates competed among their male peers and with women casting vote among the overall 340,248 voters. Turnout among women came to 58 percent and 77 percent among men.
2007 -- Kuwaiti Ismail Haidar won a gold medal in the long jump Arab competition in Damascus, recording 15.11 meters.
2010 -- Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Charity was proclaimed.
2013 - Fencing champion Yousef Al-Shaalan won the gold in saber competition of the Gulf tournament, hosted by Qatar.
2013 -- Abdulatif Al-Suraye', General Director of the Central Apparatus for Information Technology, won an honorary award for e-government leadership by the Arab Excellence Award.
2014 -- The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) released the sixth issue of the Kuwaiti dinar with updated technical and security features. (end) rk
