KUWAIT, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- 1980 -- A decree was issued on general military mobilization stipulating that the measure will be taken at times of tension in international relations or eruption of war.
1988 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah made a historic address at the UN General Assembly in his capacity as the chairman of the fifth session of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), dealing with obstacles facing progression in developing countries, namely mounting debts that are deepening the gap between countries of the North and the South hemispheres.
1990 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah met with US President George H.W. Bush at the White House. The meeting is the first since the Iraqi aggression on Kuwait. The Kuwaiti leader expressed hope that the Gulf crisis will be resolved without war.
1995 -- Kuwait established diplomatic relations with the Republic of the Marshal Islands, located in the Pacific Ocean.
1998 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah met at Bayan Palace with PhD holders and called on them to participate in crafting the country's educational policies.
1998 -- An endoscopy was performed at Addan Hospital to remove a benign tumor in the stomach for the first time in Kuwait.
2005 -- Kuwait signed a memorandum of understanding at the United Nations headquarters with the Fiji Islands, establishing diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level.
2009 -- In a historical step, the Kuwaiti delegation, including women MPs Massouma Al-Mubarak and Dr. Aseel Al-Awadhi, attended the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference in Geneva.
2012 -- UNHRC approved draft resolution submitted by Kuwait and a number of Arab states to extend mandate of the independent committee looking into human rights violations in Syria. (end) rk
