1966 -- The Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah inaugurated Kuwait University, including the science, arts and education and women's colleges. The university accommodates 418 students and 31 staff members at the time of its inauguration.
1976 -- Decree number 104 of 1976 was issued to join the agreement of the Arab Monetary Fund, signed in Rabat on April 27, 1976.
1981 -- Hamah Al-Khalifa Al-Humaida, a renowned politician and businessman, passed away at the age of 74.
1984 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah hosted leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council in the fifth session of the GCC's Higher Council.
1990 -- The UN distributed four Kuwaiti documents of the UN Security Council documents regarding evidences of killing, robbing and torture committed by the Iraqi forces in Kuwait during the Invasion.
1990 -- A Kuwaiti public delegation of 90 figures representing Kuwaiti people began extensive tours in more than 100 capitals, to explain the Kuwaiti people's viewpoints of the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait, and the Iraqis' horrible practices against Kuwaitis.
1991 -- Decree number 12 of 1991 was issued to establish the General Institute for Printing and Publication, under the supervision of the Minister of Information. However, the National Assembly in its session on January 19, 1993 did not approve the decree.
1996 -- An Amiri decree was issued to form the Higher Council for Planning. It includes 39 members, with the aim of suggesting strategies and plans of economic and social developments.
1996 -- The biggest commercial building in Kuwait City "Burj Al-Sahab" was inaugurated. Situated in Al-Salhia area, the tower cost five million Kuwaiti dinars to build. The tower, owned by Al-Salhia Real Estate Company, consists of 24 floors.
1999 -- An Amiri decree was issued to amend the administrative division of the State of Kuwait, that stipulates introducing a sixth province named "Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate" to include areas of Sabah Al-Salem, Al-Qurain, Al-Fenaitees, Al-Addan, Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Al-Qusoor, Al-Mesilah and the industrial area and Sabhan. Sheikh Mubarak Hemoud Al-Sabah is appointed governor of the new province.
2004 -- Kuwait hosted the first meeting of the heads of the Gulf region's Red Crescent societies. The meeting is inaugurated by Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
2004 -- Health Minister Dr. Mohammad Al-Jarallah inaugurated the first conference of Arab endoscopists. Participants in the three-day conference included surgeons from the United State, Norway, Britain, Italy, Japan, and a number of Arab and Gulf countries.
2004 -- Kuwaiti Men's Tennis Team won the Fifth Gulf Tennis Tournament in Doha, by placing first in both singles and doubles. Kuwaiti Tennis Player Mohammad Al-Gharib wins the gold medal in singles and the golden medal in doubles with his partner Ahmad Al-Rabea.
2005 -- Surgery and endoscope consultant at Al-Amiri Hospital Mohammad Barrak Al-Haifi conducted the first operation in Kuwait and the Middle East using the surgery endoscope. The operation is done to a 56 year old lady suffering from cancer.
2006 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued law number 46 of 2006 on Zakat and participation of companies in the state's budget.
2006 -- Kuwaiti player Tareq Al-Qallaf won a gold medal in the individual epee fencing competition of the Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC Games) held in Kuala Lumpur.
2006 -- Kuwait hosted meetings of the Solidarity Olympic Committee with the participation of more than 130 Olympic officials.
2008 -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah A-Salem Al-Sabah opened the regional bureau of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) at the headquarters of the Arab Towns Organization (ATO) in Shuwaik area.
2013 -- Kuwait, in coordination with UNESCO, returned smuggled artifacts to Iraq. (end) gta
