KUWAIT, May 27 (KUNA) -- 1964 -- A museum on Failaka Island was inaugurated by Minister of Education Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, but was closed in 1997.
1991 -- The Public Authority for Assessment of Compensation for Damages resulting from the Iraqi Aggression (PAAC) was founded in a decree by His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The body, responsible for all aspects of the UN Compensation Commission claims by Kuwait, was an independent government body, under the Cabinet jurisdictions.
1994 -- Kuwait exported its first shipment of liquid ammonia, some 15,040 metric tons, to India through Kuwait National Petroleum Company's (KNPC) docks at Shuaiba Industrial area. This came after the reconstruction of the area and its facilities which suffered great damage as a result of the Iraqi occupation of the state.
1996 -- Health Minister Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mehailan was elected as first deputy chairman of the executive council of the World Health Organization.
2000 -- Literary figure and former diplomat Abdullah Srayya Al-Srayya passed away at the age of 66. The figure had authored plays, poetry volumes, radio and television dramas and held the post of ambassador to Mauritania and Sudan.
2001 -- Dr. Khaled Al-Mathkour was chosen to represent the State of Kuwait as member of the Islamic Fiqh Academy of the Islamic World League in Makkah and the International Islamic Fiqh Academy of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Jeddah.
2003 -- Qadsia Sports Club clinched the football 41st Amir's Cup for the tenth time.
2006 -- Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Ibrahim Al-Sabah was assigned Chairman and Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) according to a decree issued by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
2008 -- Kuwait won the best architectural design award from the Arab Towns Organisation (ATO) for the Al-Kout-Fahaheel seafront project after being selected out of 13 nominations from nine Arab countries. Kuwait Municipality received the award at a ceremony in Qatar. The project consisted of 11 buildings, a mall, traditional fish, vegetable and fruit markets, restaurants, a cinema and a hotel.
2008 -- Professor Hussein Dashti of Kuwait University's surgery department became the deputy director of the Albert Schweitzer World Academy of Medicine.
2010 -- Kuwait opened an embassy in Cambodia.
2013 -- Resignation of Oil Minister Hani Hussein was accepted by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. Mustafa Al-Shemali assumed the role of acting caretaker Oil Minister. (end) gta
