KUWAIT, July 25 (KUNA) -- 1979 -- Patients' Help Fund, Kuwait's first medical charitable institution was established by a group of local doctors.
1985 -- Saleh Shihab, best remembered for his efforts to institutionalize the tourism industry in Kuwait during the 1960s and 1970s, passed away at the age of 61. His last official post was assistant undersecretary for cultural and tourism affairs.
1987 -- The State Security Court issued guilty verdicts against two defendants and acquits 30 others in the case involving circulation of anti-state pamphlets, seeking to overthrow the legitimate authority through illegal means.
1999 -- Pioneering folklore singer Ameena Mubarak, better known as Umm Zayed, passed away.
2001 -- Kuwait National Cinema Company opened three new state-of-the-art movie theaters at Al-Muhalab shopping mall in Hawally.
2010 -- Amiri decree 51/2010 issued to establish a (defaulters fund) aimed at helping citizens unable to pay for consumer loans and installments prior to December 2009. The fund is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance.
2011 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah donated USD one million to help launch relief aid campaign for Somalia.
2011 -- Ministry of Public Works signed agreement to improve regional roads stretching for over 500 kilometers, developing them to meet international standards. (end) gta
