KUWAIT, Dec 23 (KUNA) -- 1934 -- The Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah signed an agreement with Kuwait Oil Company, Ltd. which was registered in the UK, granting the company crude oil and natural gas exploration and production concession rights within the mainland and offshore. The agreement was valid for 75 years and allowed the company to undertake refining and export operations as well.
1958 -- The Psychological Hospital was inaugurated.
1991 -- The state of Kuwait hosted the 12th summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the GCC states extended congratulations on the restoration of legitimacy after the liberation of Kuwait from the Saddam occupation.
2000 -- The Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdulwahhab Al-Wazzan signed into law the establishment of the parallel market at Kuwait Stock Exchange.
2000 Tri-dimensional IMAX cinema at the Kuwait Scientific Center was operated, the first of its kind in the region with a 250-seat capacity.
2001 -- The Minister of Health, Dr. Mohammed Al-Jarallah, announced that the tobacco tax will be up by 70-100 percent in implementation of the decision of the GCC health ministers.
2001 -- Homoud Yousef Al-Nisf passed away at the age of 83. He had served as chairman of the naturalization committee in 1960, then served on the board of the municipal council in the years 1960-63 and was elected a member of the National Assembly in 1963. He held government posts between 1971 and 1980.
2008 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inaugurated the Sixth Conference for Kuwaiti Diplomatic Missions entitled "A Secure and Prosperous Country". (end) rk
