KUWAIT, Sept 22 (KUNA) -- 1938 -- The first traffic violation ticket was issued in Kuwait, signed by Police Director Ghanim Saqer Al-Gahnim.
1949 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah signed an agreement with an independent American oil company giving the company rights to oil and gas exploration in the islands of Kubbar, Garooh, and Umm Al-Maradem.
1963 -- Kuwait Sports Club was established.
1973 -- An Amiri decree was issued to establish Kuwait International Investment Company, a shareholding company with a capital of KD 20 million.
1992 -- A draft law was issued rendering null the Public Authority for the South and Gulf and transferring its functions to Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.
1995 -- The State of Kuwait signed the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
1999 -- The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) granted the Secretary General of the National Committee for Education, Science, and Culture Suleiman Al-Enaizi a silver medal and a certificate of appreciation for his service in promoting education, science, and culture as well as international understanding and cooperation.
2002 -- His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, issued a decree stipulating that Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development be supervised by the state minister for foreign affairs and that he be appointed chairman.
2004 -- Kuwait signed, in Vienna, an agreement with the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization allowing Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) to manage and operate a station in Kuwait to measure radioactivity.
2005 -- Chairman of Kuwaiti Olympics Committee, Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, was elected uncontested as chairman of the Union of the West Asian Games for a four-year term.
2008 -- Minister of Communications Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Ghunaim announced the start of use of an additional digit with local phone numbers, to bring numbers to eight digits, for mobile and landlines numbers.
2010 -- His Highness the Prime Minister addressed a senior level meeting of the UN Summit on the Millennium Development Goals and stressed Kuwait's economic and social development indices have topped targets, according to reports by the relevant UN agencies, and also stressed determination to achieve the millennium goals.
2010 -- Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Al-Sabah chaired a series of meetings at the 56th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York which discussed issues of economic development and security in the Gulf region. (end) rk
