KUWAIT, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- 1985 -- Authorities started recording census of the local population as a prelude to issuing civil identification cards that include personal details.
1996 -- Kuwait Grand Mosque's library opened its doors to the public, providing a cultural and educational outlet for communities.
2002 -- Three local charities were formed, including the Benefactors Charity Foundation aimed at encouraging Islamic missionaries around the world, the Good Deeds Charity Foundation, aimed at offering scholarships for orphans and establishing health centers for the elderly and the Charity Foundation, aimed at launching charity projects, orphanages, and Qur'an teaching centers, along with assisting families in need.
2002 -- Fawzi Dahash clinched a bronze medal in the 400 meters sprint at the 2002 IAAF World Cup held in Madrid, Spain, scoring a time of 45.14 seconds.
2003 -- Ali Al-Zankawi won Kuwait's first Asian Athletics Championship's gold medal in the hammer throw at the games held in Manila, Philippines.
2003 -- Flight Lt. Abdullah Al-Ali, 33, was killed in crash of a Kuwait Air Force F-18 jet while on a training mission.
2003 -- Youngster Abdulwahab Al-Saeedi won a gold medal in epee fencing at the North Atlanta Fencing Center opening competition in the US city.
2010 -- His Highness the Amir's representative and Kuwaiti Prime Minister, His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, attended the sixth annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative held in New York to discuss global issues, propose and execute creative solutions for urgent problems.
