1962 -- The Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, issued a decree appointing Kuwait's first three governors; Sheikh Jaber Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Ahmadi, Sheikh Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah in the Capital and Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Hawally.
1966 -- The State of Kuwait established diplomatic relations with Switzerland and opened a permanent mission in Geneva.
1977 -- The second ground station of the satellite communication network opened in Umm Al-Aish.
1984 -- The Information Ministry established a center for media archives.
1987 -- Late Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inaugurated Yousef Al-Marzouq and Lulwa Al-Nassar Islamic Medical Center for herbal treatment.
1990 -- Kuwait signed the Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against Pollution.
1993 -- Kuwait began implementing the Vienna Convention on the Protection of the Ozone Layer.
1998 -- The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor inaugurated the country's largest Olympic sports stadium at Sulaibikhat Sport Club.
1999 -- The Ministry of Interior and Kuwait Airways began granting visas for visitors through a joint electronic network.
1999 -- Kuwait Petroleum Corporation declares discovery of high-quality light crude in Kraa-Al-Maro field with daily production capacity of 1,800 barrels.
2004 -- The national handball team wins the 11th Asian Tournament after beating Japan.
2005 -- Ambassador Abdullah Al-Mansour begins work as the Arab League assistant secretary general for auditing, the first Kuwaiti to occupy such a leading post in the Arab organization.
2006 -- The national handball team was crowned Asian champion for the fourth time.
2007 -- The Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) marine reserve was inaugurated.
2008 -- Cabinet approved salary increase by KD 120 for Kuwaiti public and private sector employees, military service members, retirees, and social welfare benefactors. Non-Kuwaitis were also given a salary increase of KD 50. The overall budget for the increase was at KD one billion.
2010 -- Amiri decree issued to establish the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) as an independent body supervised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
2010 -- Amiri decree issued regarding the 2010-2011 and 2013-2014 development plans, which began in April of 2010 and concluded in March of 2014.
2012 -- Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) signed deals worth KD 45 million with global companies to rehabilitate soil at its previous drilling project in Burgan zone. (end) gta
