1961 -- The late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued Amiri Decree 13/1961, establishing the Foreign Department, entrusted with overseeing Kuwait's foreign relations.
1994 -- The temperature in Kuwait City recorded 51 degrees centigrade, the highest recorded in the world.
1995 -- First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, inaugurated Aqua Park, Kuwait's first water park established by several private companies in cooperation with the Touristic Enterprises Company.
1996 -- The late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued Law 26/1996, establishing a telecommunications company, of which 75 percent of shares were floated for public subscription.
1998 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued Amiri Decree 184/1998 appointing Mohammad Ahmad Al-Ujairi as Kuwait News Agency's Chairman and Director General.
2000 -- Kuwait won the Sixth GCC Karate Cup after clinching 23 medals (14 gold, five silver, and four bronze).
2003 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued Amiri Decree 191/2003 on forming a committee chaired by Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Duaij to execute Municipality Council duties.
2006 -- Preacher Ali Abdullatif Al-Jassar passed away at the age of 84.
2009 -- Ministry of Health announced first case of swine flu death of a three-year old Kuwaiti boy.
2009 -- Kuwait was named champion of the 9th Arab Swimming Competition held in Jordan.
