KUWAIT, April 19 (KUNA) -- 1961 -- A meeting to negotiate abrogation of the 1899 treaty with Britain was held between His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, British political resident in the Arabian Gulf Sir William Los and political agent in Kuwait Sir John Richmond at Seif Palace.
1964 -- The popular theater was officially launched. It was established in the 1950s by Mohammad Al-Nashmi.
1964 -- Kuwait Graduate Society was launched.
1969 -- His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued a decree approving Kuwait's joining of The Hague's 1954 Convention for Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict to protect artifacts at times of armed conflict.
1973 -- An Iraqi delegation, led by the then foreign minister Murtadha Abdulbaqi, visited the country to discuss the borders' issues after Iraqi troops occupied Kuwaiti As-Samtah border control center.
1994 -- The then minister of communications and minister of electricity and water, Jassem AL-Oun, inaugurated the duty free zone at Kuwait International Airport.
1998 -- The Cabinet approved establishment of the faculty for social sciences at Kuwait University.
1998 -- Kuwaiti engineer Ali Al-Turki won a patent from a renowned agency in the United States for his innovative light platform design.
2012 -- With a majority of 26 votes, the National Assembly approved a bill allowing women to participate in Municipal Council elections. (end) rk
