1952 -- Kuwaiti pioneer, Sultan Ibrahim Al-Kulaib passed away at the age of 63 years. He was member in Al-Maarif Council in 1936, the Municipal Council 1937, Director of Municipality in 1939. He was also the first Manager of the Kuwait Electricity Company established in 1933.
1990 -- Iraq said it would use all nationals of allied states as human shields by placing them in vital facilities in Iraq and Kuwait as long as Iraq was threatened by war as a result of its invasion of Kuwait.
1990 -- The UN Security Council unanimously called on Iraq to allow all foreigners to leave Iraq and Kuwait and to allow consuls of their countries to meet with them.
1992 -- Kuwait and France signed a cooperation framework agreement in the event Kuwait is subjected to foreign aggression. The agreement included holding joint military exercises and the exchange of military expertise.
1997 -- The medical emergency department at the Ministry of Health received the international ISO 9002 certificate for its distinguished medical emergency services.
1999 -- The Kuwait Health Insurance Company was established as a Kuwaiti shareholding company with a capital of five million Kuwaiti dinars. The Public Institution for Social Security owns 99.9 percent of the company.
2000 -- Five Kuwaiti youth on a trip to perform Umra, (lesser pilgrimage), were killed when their bus slipped off the road near the Saudi city of Taef.
2000 -- Prominent Kuwaiti composer and one of the founders of Kuwait Television's music troupe, Marzouk Al- Marzouk, passed away. The deceased was also a significant contributor to the modernization of Kuwaiti song.
2003 -- Kuwait Union for the Cultivation of Fish and Shrimps was declared.
2004 -- Kuwait Oil Corporation announced the discovery of light petroleum of a density of 44 degrees and a production capacity of 4,860 barrels per day in Bahra oil field, as well as natural gas at the production capacity of 12. 670 million cubic foot per day.
2007 -- Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) reported that the national seismic network had detected a quake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale in Manaqeesh area in the south.
2009 -- Minister of Health Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer inaugurated the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Health Center.
2011 -- Kuwait called upon the EU and the US to hold urgent session of the human rights council to discuss the accelerating crisis in Syria. (end) gta
