1990 -- US President George Bush orders American naval ships to enforce UN economic embargo against Iraq, authorizing the use of force when necessary.
1995 -- Kuwait establishes diplomatic relations with the Republic of Guyana in Latin America.
1996 -- Oil Minister Dr. Abdelmohsin Al-Medej reopens Kuwait Oil Company's (KOC) oil exhibition that had been destroyed by Iraqi occupation forces in 1990.
2002 -- UNESCO's Executive Board approves the USD 500,000 "Amir Jaber Prize for Research and Training in Special Needs Education for the Mentally Disabled," honoring Kuwait's late Amir and 13th ruler. The biennial prize was awarded alternately to Arab and foreign scholars.
2002 -- The Republic of Benin inaugurates its embassy in Kuwait.
2002 -- A big blaze broke out in gate-5 at Kuwait International Airport and spread to nearby gates, disrupting traffic at the airport.
2010 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah orders the increase of donations to Pakistan to USD 10 million, to help those affected by the floods that led to the evacuation of more than 14 million people from their homes.
