KUWAIT, Dec 15 (KUNA) -- 1959 -- The higher council for managing the affairs of the state formed a committee for documenting Kuwait's history.
1960 -- Kuwait joined Arab League Economic Council.
1961 -- The Iraqi regime took over 10 Kuwaiti ships embarked at Basra Port and Iraqi President Abdulkareem Qassim freezes Kuwaiti assets in Iraqi banks.
1963 -- Al-Shabab Sports Club was established in Ahmadi.
1968 -- Abdulwahab Abdulaziz Al-Qatami, well known sea captain born in 1892, passed away. He was appointed head of the municipality in 1938 and was recruited by the government to help on Continental Shelf issues in the Arabian Gulf waters.
1971 -- The State of Kuwait inaugurated its embassy in Lebanon.
1971 -- The State of Kuwait established diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level with Qatar.
1993 -- The Salmiya power plant was reopened after a 6.628 million Kuwaiti dinar renovation after devastation on the hands of the Iraqi occupying forces.
1997 -- The Minister of Health inaugurated Kuwait's center for medical rehabilitation and alternative medicine. The project falls in the framework of gaining assistance from foreign medical teams.
1997 -- The Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah inaugurated the new Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) headquarters. The old building was destroyed by the Iraqis.
2002 -- The Cabinet approved appointment of Air Vice Marshall Fahad Ahmad Al-Amir as Chief of Army Staff.
2004 -- Kuwaiti Parliament approved Amiri grant ordered by the Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to each Kuwaiti citizen, and the grant is later distributed in January 5, 2005.
2008 -- Kuwaiti swimmer Salman Qeli, 14, broke three records in competitions in Florida, USA, winning 100 meter versatile, 50 meter butterfly, and 50 meter breast strokes races. (end) mb
