KUWAIT, Sept 15 (KUNA) -- 1963 -- The State of Kuwait signed an agreement with BP Kuwait Limited to supply the state with excess oil at cost value.
1980 -- The seventh AFC football cup kicked off with 10 teams competing in two groups. Kuwait won the cup.
1990 -- Kuwaiti embassies and consulates around the world started offering Kuwaiti families abroad financial sustenance to help them manage their affairs till the end of the Iraqi occupation.
1996 -- Equate Petrochemical Company signed long-term loan agreements with a number of local, regional, and international banks, for a sum of USD 1,200 million and an operating loan of KD 45 million, to finance the construction of a petrochemical plant complex in Shuaiba industrial area.
2002 -- Then Amir, His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah issued Amiri Decree 233/2002 to appoint Bader Al-Rifaei as Secretary General for the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL), at "Undersecretary" ministerial level.
2003 -- A Kuwaiti team at Hamid Al-Eisa Organ Transplant Center successfully completes the first operation to remove a kidney with an endoscope, for a Kuwaiti woman in her thirties.
2004 -- Ministers at the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) appointed Kuwaiti Minister of Energy Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Ahmad as OPEC Chairman.
2005 -- Then Prime Minister, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, addressed the World Summit at the UN on behalf of the Kuwaiti Amir, His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and stressed that meeting the millennium goals by 2015 was not impossible, urging advanced nations to honor their pledges to support developing and under-developed nations.
2005 -- Kuwaiti shooters win the gold medal at an Asian shooting tournament hosted by Thailand.
2009 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued Amiri Decree 289/2009 giving license for the establishment of "Warba Bank" as a Kuwaiti shareholding company at a capital of KD 100 million. The decree indicates that Kuwait Investment Authority is to hold 24 percent of the new company shares, while the remaining 76 percent is to be granted to all Kuwaiti citizens. The new entity is to operate within the guidelines of Islamic Shariaah.
2010 -- Parliament Speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi inaugurated the meeting of Arab Parliaments Secretary Generals. The General Assembly later nominated Kuwait Parliament Head of Coordination and Follow-up at the Secretary General's Office Nasser Al-Abdeljader as General Assembly Secretary General.(end) rk
