KUWAIT, Feb 15 (KUNA) -- 1973 - Al-Sulaibikhat sports club was proclaimed.
1975 - MPs Jassem Al-Qutami and Rashid Al-Farhan submitted the first draft law in the history of Kuwait's parliamentary life, proposing that Kuwaiti women should be allowed to attain their political rights, but the National Assembly was dissolved before the draft law was discussed.
1993 - Kuwait witnessed first run-off (polling) in the national parliamentary history. Voters headed to ballot stations in the 14th and 15th constituencies, after the Constitutional Court ordered holding follow-up elections to choose two MPs. Mubarak Al-Khurainej and Humoud Al-Jabri were re-elected as members of the National Assembly (the Parliament).
1994 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued decree 37, establishing the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies to operate under jurisdictions of the Minister of Justice. The institute, inaugurated in 1995, was tasked with training Kuwaiti public prosecutors, personnel of the Justice and Fatwa (edict) Department and General Directorate for Control and Inspection.
1998 -- The Interior Minister issued an order forming a civil defense sub-committee in each governorate.
2003 -- Abdulaziz Al-Saraawi passed away at the age of 75. He was a diplomat, MP and former minister of social affairs and labor.
2005 -- The world's largest kite, in the shape of the Kuwaiti flag, was flown in Kuwait as part of the Hala February Festival. It measured 25 meters in length and 42 meters in width.
2006 -- The Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) proclaimed "Shirmanz" club, designed to organize integrated sports, cultural and social activities for the citizens.
2001 -- Kuwait took delivery of the 2.1-ton oil tanker, "Umm Al-Aish," the second of four constructed by the South Korean conglomerate, Daewoo, for Kuwait Oil Tankers Company (KOTC).
2012 -- Kuwait Environment Protection Society launched the "one million palm trees" campaign, coinciding with the national days' celebrations.
2012 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inaugurated regular session of the 14th legislative term of the National Assembly (the Parliament).
2014 -- The Kuwaiti field-and-track champion, Saleh Al-Haddad, won the gold medal in the long jump competition, as part of the sixth Asian tournament. His fellow citizen, Abdulaziz Al-Mandeel, also bagged a gold medal in the 6-m hurdles. (end) rk
