KUWAIT, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- 1963 -- Kuwait Embassy was inaugurated in the Russian Federation.
1970 -- Amiri Decree number 110/70 was issued, transforming the Planning Council into an independent body annexed to the cabinet.
1976 -- An Amiri Decree was issued, forming the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS).
1977 -- An Amiri Decree was issued, approving the transit agreement regulating transportation among Arab states.
1981 -- Kuwait Banking Committee was established with the aim of consolidating cooperation and coordination between local banks in order to effectively contribute to enhancing the national economy.
1983 -- Six explosions rocked various places in the country while the seventh charge failed to explode. Two blasts targeted the US and French embassies, Kuwait Airport and residences of American technicians in Bidaa area. Four people were killed and 62 others were wounded. The Islamic Jihad movement claimed responsibility for the blasts.
1991 -- Kuwait took a USD 5.5 billion loan to finance reconstruction operations following the country's liberation from the Iraqi occupation.
1995 -- Kuwait and Guatemala signed a joint declaration, establishing diplomatic ties.
1996 -- Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) announced that Kuwait had completed repayment of the international loan and its interest estimated at nearly USD 786 million.
1998 -- First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad AlSabah laid the cornerstone of the oil complex on the Arabian Gulf shore.
2000 -- Kuwait joined the UN Convention on Transnational Organized Crime.
2004 -- Chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization's (PLO) Executive Committee Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Kuwait on an official visit, making him the first high-ranking Palestinian official to visit the country after the Iraqi invasion.
2004 -- Dr. Mustafa Al-Moussawi was elected Chairman of the Middle East Transplant Society for 20052006.
2005 -- The Prime Minister, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, inaugurated the 138th extraordinary OPEC meeting, hosted by Kuwait.
2006 -- The conference entitled "NATO and Gulf Countries: Facing Common Challenges through ICI" was inaugurated in Kuwait under the auspices of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
2006 -- Kuwait and NATO signed a secure information exchange agreement.
2007 -- The National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters granted an award to Mustafa Ahmad, a pioneer in the development of Kuwait's arts and music movement, in appreciation for his efforts over a four-decade period.
2007 -- Kuwait's Shooting Team won first place in the men's skeet category at the 11th Asian Tournament held here.
2007 -- Health Minister Abdullah Al-Taweel inaugurated the new Psychiatric Hospital, having 846 beds, a staff of 85 doctors and 543 nurses.
2009 -- Kuwait athlete Abdullah Al-Thuwaini broke the world school record in the 100 meters backstroke swimming at the world tournament held in Qatar. He finished the swim in 55.85 seconds, improving on the previous record at 56.42 seconds.
2013 -- National Assembly approved a number of legislations connected with the improvement of the housing sector in Kuwait. (end) mb
