KUWAIT, Oct 8 (KUNA) -- 1955 -- The Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah opened the Mylrea Memorial Hospital, commonly known as the Men's hospital.
1961 -- The State of Kuwait established diplomatic relations with Britain and appointed Khalifa Al-Ghunaim as the first Ambassador in London.
1961 -- Kuwait was divided into 10 electoral constituencies, each voter elects two Members of Parliament (MPs).
1990 -- The Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued a decree stipulating that stolen banknotes from the Central Bank during the Iraqi invasion to Kuwait are no longer legal.
2002 -- A US Marine was killed and another injured in an exchange of fire with Kuwaiti gunmen in Failaka Island in Kuwait.
2007 -- Sheikh Salem Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah passed away at the age of 69. He was the son of Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. He was assigned as Kuwait's Ambassador to the UK, then Kuwait's Ambassador to the US, and other countries.
2007 -- Kuwait won two prizes of the World Summit Award (WSA), held in Croatia with the participation of more than 160 countries. The WSA is a global initiative to select and promote the world's best e-Content.
2008 -- Minister of Health Ali Al-Barrak opened the Abu Hulaifa Clinic, which includes several medical specialties able to serve 85,000 residents and expatriates in the area.
2012 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah headed the cabinet meeting at Seif Palace, in which he discussed various issues and developments in light of the Constitutional Court ruling of the appeal presented by the government against Law No. 42 of 2006 dealing with constituencies followed by the decree to dissolve the National Assembly of 2009.
2012 -- Kuwaiti Jet Ski team snatched its first global victory in the World Championship for water bikes held in Arizona. The team claimed 15 medals in the championship.
2013 -- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and Cyprus News Agency (CNA) signed agreement to exchange news and photos.
2013 -- The State of Kuwait and Cyprus signed agreements to bolster ties on several domains. (end) gta
