KUWAIT, March 6 (KUNA) -- 1968 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued a decree, endorsing the international telecommunication convention.
1979 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inaugurated the cultural village, established by the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters at Jamal Abdulnasser Park.
1986 -- Kuwait became a signatory state of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982.
1991 -- Operation to douse oil wells, set afire by retreating Iraqi forces, began with companies from 27 countries participating in the effort.
1991 -- British Prime Minister John Major visited Kuwait. He was the first foreign senior official to visit the liberated Gulf state.
2002 -- Ministry of Oil announced establishment of Kuwait Company for Gulf Oil, a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, with a capital of KD 120 million for management of oilfields in the divided zone.
2005 -- Kuwait hosted the 10th Executive Council Meeting of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) with participation of 20 officials.
2006 -- The National Assembly approved a draft law on press and publications.
2007 -- The Parliament endrosed, with a majority of votes, the publications law, which consists of granting licenses for dailies and copy rights.
2008 -- Kuwait Lawyers Association's headquarters witnessed proclamation of the first women political group, "Tanami," with aim of promoting women role in the society.
2010 -- Kuwaiti gymnastics champions, aged under 12 and 16, won the 8th Gulf tournament, held in Jeddah. The Kuwaiti athletes bagged 22 medals, including eight gold ones. (end) gta
