KUWAIT, Sept 5 (KUNA) -- 1980 -- Egaila Beach was opened on a space of 47,300 square meters, and it is located in Egaila area, south of Kuwait City. It includes various facilities, restaurants and an open theatre.
1989 -- Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah called on countries participating in the ninth conference of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Belgrade to review the harsh conditions applied by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank on developing countries and to increase scientific and technical assistance provided by the North to the South.
1990 -- The State of Kuwait submitted a complaint to the UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar concerning the wide-scale looting carried out by the Iraqi forces occupying Kuwait.
1993 -- One of the most prominent Kuwaiti businessmen and pioneers of Kuwait's economy, Mohammed Abdul-Mohsen Al-Kharafi, passed away at the age 74. Al-Kharafi was known all over the Arab world and the Gulf for his contributions to world finance. He was one of the founders of the National Bank of Kuwait, Kuwait Airways Corporation and the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
1997 -- The Library of the US Congress chooses Kuwait as the regional center for the International Network of Legal Information.
1998 -- The US publication, Newsweek International, granted former KUNA Chairman and Director-General Barjes Al-Barjes a certificate of appreciation for his valuable contributions to Arab and Islamic news publishing, as well as broadcasting exclusive reports. This was the first time an Arab media figure is given such an award outside the US.
2000 -- Kuwaiti MP Nasser Al-Sane'a was elected member in the executive committee of the International Parliamentary Scouts Union.
2002 -- Kuwait Youth swimming team wins 60 medals in the fourth Gulf Aquatics Tournament with 22 gold, 20 silver and 18 bronze medals.
2011 -- Former Minister of Health Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer granted (Karger Publishers) an amount of USD one million during his visit to Switzerland. The donation was part of a Kuwaiti contribution to support the printing and translation of the human body anatomy encyclopedia. (end) gta
